Traxxas offers a "factory" water cooling kit as an upgrade to the Villain R/C boat. We at FunRCBoats feel the water cooling is a must for any R/C model boat. This page covers the details of installing the factory cooling system in a Traxxas Villain Deep Vee. This kit does include detailed printed instructions for this installation.

Total install time is 25 minutes and requires the following tools:

• 5/46" drill bit
• 3/16" drill bit
• Drill motor
• Cutters to trim zip ties
• Flat head screw driver to pop off heat sinks
• All other tools provided in the kit

Step 1: Pop off the motors heat sinks and unplug motors (make sure you pay attention to how the wires are connected!) The instructions say to pull the motors, but we CAREFULLY slipped them over the exposed end of the motor being careful not to cover the air vent holes in the sides of motor can. Villain 4: The white grease is special material to help heat transfer to the heat sinks. We leave it on the motors.

STEP 2: Slide on the coils as shown and plumb the tubing to the back and connect to the water pickup.

Step 3: The picture below shows the proper placement of the water pick up. Although hard to see, there is a black tube extending down to scoop up the water. Note: this picture also shows the system with an aftermarket upgrade Auto Bailer installed.

Drill a 3/16" hole in the side of the boats hole and inner liner for the exit hose. Then drill another hole in the rear between the two steering boots for the in coming water hose. Then drill two 5/64" holes for the two machine screws that hold on the water pick up. Then cut the water line and plumb the system.

That is it! Now you can continuously run and not worry about melting down your motors. Go have some fun.

Villain Water cooling is highly recommended for all Electric motors in R/C model boats. This becomes more important as you make modifications or increase the number of cells (voltage). The cooling system consists of aluminum tubing which picks up water from underneath the boat, circulates it through coils wrapped around the motors, and in some cases, the speed control, and then exits through the side or rear of the boat.

These systems can remove up to 50% of the heat generated inside high-performance boats. The Traxxas water cooling kit, part #1575, includes all the necessary parts and instructions to install the water cooling into your Villain boat.
