Props are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. See Prop Chart for more info. They also come in different materials like: Aluminum, Beryllium Copper, Stainless Steel, Plastic and Carbon in Left (left being the standard) or Right hand drive. The "trick" is to find the correct prop for your boat this is typically done by testing and monitoring boat speed, motor temperature and the boats ability to get on "plane"  (acceleration from a stop) out of the hole "thrust."

                                             

Left hand, Plastic, Beryllium Copper or Stainless Steel props are the most common and available in a wide range of sizes and pitches. However, Sharpening, Polishing and Balancing a prop are all part of a modelers job. Here are a few "tuning" tricks:

THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME BASIC PROPELLER RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ELECTRIC BOATS. THE MAIN THING TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN SELECTING A PROP FOR YOUR ELECTRIC BOAT IS NOT TO OVER PROP. BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER, PARTICULARLY ON AN ELECTRIC BOAT. IF YOU INSTALL TOO BIG A PROPELLER, THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE YOU WILL BURN UP YOUR MOTOR, SPEED CONTROL, ETC. THE BEST WAY IS TO START WITH THE SMALLEST PROPELLER RECOMMENDED, PUT THE BOAT OUT FOR A SHORT (20 - 30 SECONDS) RUN, BRING IT BACK IN AND FEEL THE MOTOR(S). IF YOU CAN HOLD ONTO THE MOTOR - NO PROBLEM, IF COOL YOU MAY BE ABLE TO INCREASE YOUR PROP SIZE. IF YOU CAN NOT HOLD ONTO THE MOTOR(S), YOU HAVE TOO BIG A PROP FOR YOUR BOAT/MOTOR/CELL COMBINATION AND YOU WOULD BE ADVISED TO TRY A SMALLER PROPELLER.

Prather Props - Use the following prop usage chart to match the proper prop to your boat and engine. In many cases more than one prop is recommended. The 1st prop recommended is the smallest followed by one or two larger props. The 1st prop recommended is generally used for low nitro or where high R.P.M. is needed. It's also great for breaking in new motors. The 2nd and 3rd props are for higher nitro fuels (50% to 60%) or where a higher strut height is used. BASIC PROPELLER RECOMMENDATIONS:
One Of the most common phone calls we get is for propeller recommendations. We realize two boats are rarely set up identically, be it propeller depth, fuel mixture, the altitude, weight of boat, etc., there are many factors to take into consideration. One word of caution when selecting a propeller for a nitro/gas powered boat - do not under prop, okay, that is more than one word but we do want to caution against putting on too small a propeller and you could possibly over-rev your motor and blow the connecting rod. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ADJUST THE NEEDLE VALVE WITH THE BOAT ON THE STAND, ONLY WITH THE PROPELLER PARTIALLY OR COMPLETELY SUBMERGED IN THE WATER!
